The Seamans Arrives at the Tuamotus
The Stanford at Sea trip has been off to a wonderful start with excellent breezes for sailing the first 200 miles from Tahiti to the northern Tuamotus. We had relatively easy seas and beautiful weather. Our students rapidly gained their sea legs and we were doing scientific stations with our CTD called a hydrocast and evening net tows to sample the plankton and deeper layers of organisms with our meter net tows. We have arrived at our first destination in Rangiroa in the northern Tuamotos and we are getting ready to start key research projects. Everyone aboard has enthusiastically embraced the ship and we are bonding quickly in our watches! Standby for first hand report from students as they experience the sea life in this wonderful place!
